Electronic ball-winding machine
The NEXUS electronic ball-winding machine is suitable to produce high-quality balls in wool, acrylic, mixed and fancy yarns, cotton and similar fibres.
The machine is equipped with the most advanced ball shape and pattern control ever built.
The NEXUS semi-automatic ball winder is available in the following versions:
- SCT.200 for balls from 20 to 100 g, with a maximum length of 170 mm.
- SCT.240 for balls from 20 to 150 g, with a maximum length of 200 mm.
- SCT.280 for balls from 50 to 300 g, with a maximum length of 290 mm.
TECHNICAL FEATURES:
Number of winding positions: 10, 12, 16 and 20.
Multi-language programmable 9.7″ TFT colour touchscreen operator panel where the following parameters can be set:
- Winding speed, adjustable from 50 to over 1240 rpm.
- Beam movement (shape of the balls).
- Patterns and thread laying of the balls. The device is also able to change automatically ball patterns during the winding cycle to obtain more voluminous and softer balls.
- Pattern selection infinitely variable from 1:2,000 to 1:600,000.
- Weight of the balls.
Patterns, shapes and weight of the balls, as well as the winding speed and all other parameters of the balls, are controlled by a computer, can be memorized in over 200 programmes, and can be recalled as needed.
The panel also displays useful messages for the operator, including:
- Alarm messages, chronology of the alarms.
- Status of Input and outputs of the PLC and the encoders.
- Functional messages.
- Real time working data.
Selectable languages: Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, French, German.
- USB port: to download the database of ball programs on a USB key (pendrive), to have a copy and / or to be able to transfer the database to another ball-winding machine.
- Program Lock Key.
- Automation control via PLC with integrated motion control.
- Multicolour Tower lamp signalization.
The machine is also equipped with:
- Automatic opening and closing of the mandrels.
- Simultaneous calibration of the diameter of the mandrels.
- Automatic yarn cutting with tail-clamping device for the next cycle.
- Automatic yarn ends release device during the winding cycle.
- Beam movement controlled by motorized cylinder.
- Cone holder reel suitable for all types of cones with reserve positions.
- Yarn-cutter knives made of hardened K100 steel.
- Pneumatic yarn threading device into the winding flyers (one valve per flyer).
- Timing belt transmission.
Safety equipment according to EU and US safety regulations:
- Photoelectric safety barriers (front and rear operator detection), SIL3 Type 4, interfaced with safety relays.
- Automatic safety gate that closes at cycle start and opens automatically when the machine stops or during the cutting cycle.

- Conveyor belt driven by inverter.
- Pneumatical creel for easier unwinding of yarn in cakes.
- Automatic inner-core positioner on expansion mandrels.
- Yarn break detection device (BTSR IS3F sensors) with self-adapting system able to detect yarn presence in the flyer at cycle start and automatically exclude the sensor if yarn is absent.
